The Lady sits at her piano with her back to us, staring across a lake, with her hands at her side on the piano bench. Flowers are in her hair. It is late afternoon. She cannot play the piano because it is broken right down the middle. “The Lady” is what Burmese call their democracy leader, Aung San Suu Kyi. In the shadows on either side of her are soldiers with rifles. The Shwedagon Pagoda is reflected in the lake.
